Barbering

A barber's chair inside the salon

Men's cuts, boys' cuts and beards, done properly and booked like any other appointment. It is the thing clients mention most often by name, and it is the reason a family can get all three heads done in one stop instead of three.

Why a beauty salon is doing men's hair at all

Most salons on this street will cut a man's hair as a favour and most barbershops will not touch colour. This one does both on purpose, and the people who notice first are families: a mother's blow-dry, a son's fade and a father's beard fit into the same hour on the same street instead of two trips across Glendale.

It shows up in what people write afterwards. Men's and children's haircuts are one of the three things Google itself pulls out of the salon's reviews, which is unusual for a place with the word beauty on the sign.

What $40 actually buys

A men's haircut is $40 with clippers and scissors together — the ordinary way most cuts are done. $50 is scissors only: no clipper work at all, which is what you want on thick hair, on curls, and on anyone growing out a shorter shape without a visible step.

A boy's haircut starts at $35, a beard trim at $20, and a men's cut with colour starts at $100 — that last one is almost always grey, taken down a few shades rather than blacked out, because a hard flat black on a man reads as dye from across the room.

Bringing a child

Boys are on the barbering list at $35 and up; girls are on the hair list, where a child's cut is $60 and a cut with a proper style is $80. Either way, book it early in the day. A tired child at five in the afternoon is a different appointment from the same child at ten in the morning, and we would rather tell you that than fight the chair.

If it is a first haircut, say so when you book. There is a whole piece on this site about how to prepare for one, and the short version is that nothing about it needs to be dramatic.

Who does it

The chair you are booking

Owner & stylist

Nara

Nara opened the salon and still works the floor every day — she is usually the one who greets you. Colour and blow-dries are her own chair, and she will tell you which products actually suit your hair rather than selling you the shelf. She is also the name clients give for men's and boys' cuts, which is unusual enough in a beauty salon that people write about it. The range of the place is her doing: hair, nails, brows and skin under one roof, each with someone who does only that.

Stylist · all services

Armen

Cuts, blow-dries, colour, highlights, hair styling and creative cuts, and men's cuts too. Armen takes on everything on the menu.

  • Men's haircut30 min$40
  • Men's haircut with scissors45 min$50
  • Men's haircut and colouring45 min$100and up
  • Haircut for boys30 min$35and up
  • Beard trim15 min$20and up

Where a price says “and up”, that is the starting figure for the service as listed — very long or very thick hair needs more product and more time. You are told the number at the chair, before anything is mixed or applied, not afterwards.

In their words

This is a really honest review based on my experience. From the moment I walked into the salon, I felt so welcomed and comfortable. The place is beautiful, and everyone there is super kind and caring. They offer pretty much everything—hair, nails, hair removal, facials—so it’s like a one-stop place to take care of yourself. The prices are also really reasonable,, which is great for the quality you get. The owner, Nara, is amazing, especially with men’s haircuts. The whole team works so well together and really tries to make sure you leave happy, even if you don’t have a lot of time. Janna does great keratin treatments, Iza is really good with hair color and blowouts, and Armen does beautiful cuts and blowouts for both men and women. There are also two nail techs named Anna, and both are really good. I personally go to Anna E (with black hair) because she was the first one I went to, and I’ve loved her work ever since. Overall, it’s just a really nice salon with talented people who genuinely care about their clients. I always leave feeling happy and taken care of.

Before you book

Questions we get asked

Anything not answered here — call the salon and ask. Someone who does this every day will pick up.

How much is a men's haircut?
$40 with clippers and scissors, or $50 for scissors only. A beard trim is $20 and up. A men's cut with colour starts at $100. You are told the figure before anyone picks up a comb.
Do I need an appointment?
Not always — clients have written about walking in and being seated straight away — but there is no promise of it. Call and we will tell you in a minute whether a chair is free, or book the time online and skip the question.
Who cuts men's hair here?
Nara and Armen. Nara is the name clients give most often for men's cuts, which is unusual enough in a beauty salon that reviewers write it down. Ask for either when you book.
Do you cut boys' hair?
Yes, from $35. Girls' cuts sit on the hair list instead: $60 for a cut, $80 with a style. Morning appointments go better than late-afternoon ones with young children.
Can you cover grey without it looking dyed?
That is what a men's cut with colour is for, from $100. The point is to take the grey down a few shades, not to paint it out — flat black on a man is visible from across a room and nobody is asking for that.
How long does it take?
Half an hour for a clipper-and-scissor cut, three quarters for scissors only or a cut with colour, a quarter of an hour for a beard. That is how long the chair is held for you, not an estimate we hope to beat.
