There is no shelf price for extensions and anyone who gives you one over the phone is guessing. The consultation is free, it takes half an hour, and you leave it knowing the method, the amount of hair and the number.
Real work by this salon, published by the salon itself — real work, with no filters added by us. More in the gallery.
Three things set the cost of a fitting, and none of them can be judged down a phone line. How much hair you need — a bit of volume through the crown is a different job from adding eight inches all round. What your own hair can carry, which depends on its density and condition at the root, not on what you would like it to carry. And the colour match, which is where good extensions are separated from obvious ones.
So the consultation is free and it is a real appointment, not a sales chat. We look at your hair in daylight, talk about how you actually live — gym, pool, how you sleep, how much time you have in the morning — and only then talk about method and money.
Extension hair does not lift and tone the way your own does, so the match is made by choosing correctly rather than by correcting afterwards. If your hair is a blend of several tones, which almost everyone's is, the match needs more than one shade blended through. Getting this right is the difference between length nobody notices and a curtain that announces itself in every photograph.
If you are colouring as well, we do the colour first. Matching to hair you are about to change is how people end up with extensions that are perfect for a fortnight.
Extensions are a maintenance commitment, and it is fairer to say that plainly before you spend the money than afterwards. They need brushing through properly, they need the bonds or wefts kept clean and dry at the root, and they need moving up as your own hair grows. Skipping that is what causes the horror stories people repeat about extensions damaging hair.
Removal is a published price — from $100 — and it is a proper, patient job. Do not let anyone rush it and do not try it at home with kitchen scissors, which is the one way to actually lose hair over this.
Where a price says “and up”, that is the starting figure for the service as listed — very long or very thick hair needs more product and more time. You are told the number at the chair, before anything is mixed or applied, not afterwards.
